I’m an accomplished content creator with more than a dozen years of copywriting, editing, content creation, video production, strategy and digital marketing experience.
I graduated cum laude from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism. From there, I began my career with KTVN Channel 2 News in Reno where I worked my way up and developed my skills in content creation, writing, editing, public speaking and video production. I started as a Production Assistant where I managed studios cameras, ran the anchor teleprompter, helped design over-the-shoulder graphics and ran the audio board. I was then promoted to Weekend Assignment Manager/Weekday 11 p.m. Producer. On the weekends, I ran the newsroom, set up and assigned photographers and reporters stories and proofread scripts to ensure they were optimal before going on air. On the weekdays, I wrote and produced Channel 2 News at 11 where I was responsible for stacking and making the shows flow based on top stories, breaking news, weather, regional and world news, sports, etc.
In 2013, the News and Sports directors gave me my first on-air opportunity where I shot, edited and reported on Northern Nevada high school sports for KTVN's Inside The 2 and 2 The Hoop. From there, I transitioned into a general news reporter/Video Journalist full-time. While I reported on breaking news, weather, brush fires, and special events around Northern Nevada; my favorite stories to tell were about people and their passions. The biggest compliments I've received were when viewers say they learned something from my stories. I attribute much of my success in news to my mentors in the newsroom I learned so much from!
In 2015, I joined the Nugget Casino Resort as their Special Events Coordinator where I really cut my teeth in video production, content and digital marketing. I worked directly with the Director of Special Events and Entertainment to plan logistics, marketing and execution of multiple events, including the Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off and Nugget Star Spangled Sparks. I also worked closely with executives to develop integrated marketing campaigns for special events, casino promotions and developments on-property through press and community outreach, social media, traditional and digital marketing and digital media creation.
In 2016, I got into government affairs when I was hired as Public Information Officer 1 with the Nevada State Treasurer's Office. There, I developed a monthly communications calendar for each division of the Treasurer's Office, which include writing and pitching press releases on various division developments, creating social media content and promoting financial literacy for everyone across the Silver State. Each day, I managed daily media requests from local and national media outlets. I led multi-channel communication efforts with citizens through email, social media and telephone, to address questions, comments and concerns for each of the office's divisions on a daily basis. I also worked with the Treasurer and other management on strategies for Nevada’s College Savings Plans branding, which included an integrated marketing approach involving media and community outreach, traditional and digital advertising and contests. This led to a substantial increase in new college savings accounts creations in Nevada, compared to 2015 and 2016.
After my position was eliminated by the Nevada Legislature, I worked for a Reno-based advertising agency where I managed the creative, public relations, social media and advertising project teams for eight agency clients located throughout the nation. I also researched and developed responses to detailed requests for proposals (RFPs) from multiple sectors such as gaming, insurance, financial services, medical and environmental services. I created monthly reports and presentations for clients on media impressions, social media, web and email statistics.
In 2018, I became Social Media Manager at EMPLOYERS, a publicly-traded, national workers' compensation insurance carrier. I develop and manage social media content and strategy targeted to EMPLOYERS-appointed agents, policyholders and future job candidates. Before I began, there wasn't a dedicated Social Media Manager. Total engagement between April 2018 and April 2020 by 1,524.28% on Facebook, 3,678% on LinkedIn and 417% on Twitter. For my work in building the company's social media presence, I was awarded the 2018 EMPLOYERS Organization Game Changer (pictured), and was nominated as a 2019 Insurance Marketing and Communications Association (IMCA) Rising Star Award. I'm the host of several digital segments, including The EMPLOYERS Emphasis podcast where I interview people from not only EMPLOYERS, but those in the insurance industry as a whole and non-profit organizations it supports. I also provide training for employees and insurance agents about social media best practices, which is one of the most favorite parts of my job!
I was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. I consider myself to be a major foodie and love trying new restaurants and cuisines. If you ever need a suggestion for good restaurants the next time you’re in Reno, I’m your guy! I also love spending time with my wife, Kelsey, baby boy, Dominic, attending sporting and pro wrestling events, and training and teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, in which I am currently a blue belt.
