ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dean Rocco, Partner of  Wilson Elser, is a pragmatic, results-oriented attorney who leverages the firm’s geographic reach and strength across multiple disciplines to the benefit of clients. He takes great pride in building long-standing partnerships with clients through responsive communication and positive outcomes consistent with their business philosophies and objectives.

Dean is the Western Region Chair of the firm’s national Employment & Labor Practice. In that capacity, he maintains a significant practice working with clients on transactional matters, providing advice and counsel and representing employers and management in a wide range of employment litigation. In addition, Dean develops award-winning e-learning solutions for clients, including online harassment prevention training programs, and serves as a member of the firm’s COVID-19 Task Force.

For years, California employers tackled the challenge of complying with ever-changing wage and hour and labor laws.  The COVID-19 pandemic raised the compliance hurdle while adding a real and present threat to employee health and safety. A nd, as employers and workers adjusted to that threat, new trends emerged in the “where” and “how” employees can perform their jobs.  This presentation will address where we stand in our recovery and the remaining obligations of employers operating during the pandemic, including those around vaccine mandates and exemptions. We will also discuss the new and emerging challenges facing employers working to hire or return employees to physical workplaces or adjust to remote workforces.  The road map for this new employment environment is being written as we go...let us help you navigate the risk

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Mike Aberle, Chief Executive Officers of MindMeld Learning is an experienced Program Manager with more than 15 years of P&C experience.  He is also the current chair for the California Cannabis Industry Association Insurance Sub-Committee. In 2008, he developed and launched one of the first Medical Marijuana P&C Programs for the Cannabis industry. 

In 2013, Mike was named Senior Vice President for GP Insurance Brokers (now Next Wave Insurance Services, LLC), where he oversees the Cannabis Program development and implementation, marketing, and agency training nationally and internationally.  Mike acts as a key point person for our agents, wholesale insurance brokers and industry relations for all US and international operations.

Supply chain risks, increased ransom payments, state-sponsored threat actors - cyber threats are coming from all angles and creating a perfect storm in the cyber marketplace. More than 70% of ransomware incidents were revenue. Data breaches are escalating as well, with the average total cost of data breaches being $3.86M. Overall, global economic cybercrime costs are expected to grow 15% per year over the next five years, and small businesses have become a primary target for many cybercriminals. This ransomware epidemic that many small businesses are facing highlights how rapid cyber is changing. Cowbell Cyber will cover some best practices to help mitigate cyber incidents. Along with a look at the Cowbell Factors and how Cowbell uses continuous risk assessment within their standalone cyber insurance product.

During that time, Mr. Norwood was one of the chief lobbyists and managed the Sacramento law and lobbying office of Heron, Burchette, Ruckert & Rothwell, a national political firm; and operated his own government relations firm for more than 20 years.

He provides counsel on all corporate legal matters affecting the non-profit trade association and its subsidiaries, represents the interests of independent insurance agents and brokers at regulatory hearings conducted by the California Department of Insurance and other state agencies, coordinates the Association’s involvement in litigation affecting insurance producers, and provides legal research and support to the Association’s legislative advocates.
